Also, the Was Life Created? brochure and the Origin of Life brochure are now in the Teaching Toolbox section in the JW Library app. So, it would be good to consider some of the expressions used in the Mandarin versions of these publications that can be so helpful when discussing whether life was created.

“Coincidences”! Sure…

In the above quote, “qiǎohé (qiǎo·hé {being coincidental → [coincidentally]} · {closing [with] → [suiting; fitting; matching]} → [coincidental] | coincidental · {closing → [suiting; fitting; matching]} → [coinciding | coincidence] 巧合)” is used as an adjective and as a noun, corresponding with “coincidental” and “coincidences”.

In “qiǎohé (qiǎo·hé {being coincidental → [coincidentally]} · {closing [with] → [suiting; fitting; matching]} → [coincidental] | coincidental · {closing → [suiting; fitting; matching]} → [coinciding | coincidence] 巧合)”, “qiǎo ({[is] clever; intelligent; skillful; ingenious} | {[being] opportune; coincidental} [→ [coincidentally]] 巧)” means “[being] coincidental”, which meaning it also has in “pèngqiǎo (pèng·qiǎo {having bumped into} · {being coincidental} → [by chance/coincidence] 碰巧)”, a past MEotW. “Coincidences”? Or Products of Purposeful Design?

The Was Life Created? brochure goes on to list the features of the earth that are discussed in that section of the brochure:

  • Earth’s location in the Milky Way galaxy and the solar system, as well as the planet’s orbit, tilt, rotational speed, and unusual moon
  • A magnetic field and an atmosphere that serve as a dual shield
  • Natural cycles that replenish and cleanse the planet’s air and water supply

Next comes an invitation that we would do well to learn how to extend to those we speak to in the Mandarin field:

Rather than dismissively thinking to ourselves that the songs produced by the organization are “just songs”, we should remember that the slave class takes seriously its responsibility to provide spiritual food to God’s people, and so it is going to make sure that the lyrics in its songs are spiritually correct, while also being emotionally moving.—Ezekiel 33:32; Matthew 24:45.

Jehovah Is Worthy of the Glory

Glorify Jehovah as the Creator

As Jehovah’s servants in the Mandarin field, we should note that “pèi ({mate (animals)}; {join together}; {join in marriage} [→ [match | deserve; {are worthy of} | compound; mix according to a ratio | distribute according to plan; apportion]] 配)” also occurs in Revelation 4:11 in the Mandarin version of the current New World Translation Bible:

Revelation 4:11 helps us to understand that evolution is a set of lies from Satan the Devil targeted directly at the reason Jehovah God deserves “the glory and the honor and the power”, and that by promoting evolution, Satan seeks to take those things away from Jehovah. Jehovah did create all things, though, so he does deserve “the glory and the honor and the power”. Taking those away from Jehovah by holding that he is not the Creator and that all things actually evolved from nothing is part of the great injustice that Satan has committed against Jehovah, the reproach that Satan has heaped upon Jehovah’s name since he began his rebellious course. This injustice is so great, in fact, that it is the first thing Jesus taught us to pray about in the model prayer, as recorded at Matthew 6:9:

“You must pray, then, this way:

“‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.

We can also note that at this time, 3 out of the 6 books or brochures in the JW Library app’s Teaching Toolbox—fully one half of them—are focused on the subject of creation/evolution.

So, in our efforts to glorify Jehovah in the Mandarin field, let us not neglect helping people to clearly understand the abundant evidence that “Jehovah…created all things”. This is especially important in the Mandarin field, since the cultural background of many Mandarin-speakers predisposes them to believe in evolution, that Satanic set of lies designed to bring reproach on Jehovah and take away from him “the glory and the honor and the power” that he deserves.

Jehovah Is More Deserving of Glory Than Worldly Chinese Culture Is

As our Creator and “the King of eternity”, Jehovah certainly is more deserving of glory than worldly human Chinese culture is, regardless of how old it is compared to other human cultures, and how influential it currently is in the human world. (1 Timothy 1:17) As Mandarin field language learners, let us keep that in mind when, for example, we are considering how much time and effort it is appropriate to expend on learning and remembering Chinese characters, those burdensomely complex and undeservedly glamourized icons of Chinese culture, compared to how much time and effort we are expending on learning how to glorify Jehovah as Jesus did—with clear, understandable, persuasive speech.—Luke 4:32; 1 Corinthians 14:8–11.

And, as can be seen from this expression’s Pīnyīn (Pīn·yīn {Piecing Together of} · Sounds → [Pinyin] 拼音) Plus “flashcard”, the literal meanings of its constituent morphemes come together to mean something like “Master (or Lord) Who Created All Things”.

“Did They Give You Evidence”?

A Big Presence in the Teaching Toolbox

It’s worth noting that the No. 3 2021 issue of Awake! is currently in the Teaching Toolbox in the JW Library app. That means that as of this writing, 3 out of the 6 books or brochures in the Teaching Toolbox—fully one half of them—are focused on the subject of creation/evolution. Additionally, the Enjoy Life Forever! book, one of the other publications in the Teaching Toolbox, has an entire lesson on the subject “How Did Life Begin?”. This big presence in the Teaching Toolbox of material focused on creation/evolution reflects a recent heavy emphasis on this issue on the part of the organization.

Indeed, for people in general to find real spiritual truth and make real spiritual progress, the question of the Creator’s existence is the first basic question that needs to be answered well in their minds, otherwise they are left with just the conflicting opinions, speculations, and platitudes of mere limited, imperfect humans. As Proverbs 9:10 says:

The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom,
And knowledge of the Most Holy One is understanding.

In the Mandarin field in particular, it is especially necessary to focus on the issue of the Creator’s existence, because current worldly Chinese culture has particularly heavily predisposed many Mandarin-speakers to not believe in a Creator.

At the same time, the worldwide Mandarin field is by far the largest language field in the world, and it’s likely that it is the largest language field ever in history.
