Introduction

“This list is based on 4-5 years of material in the Chinese publications of [w mag] and [km] By learning the first 100 words you understand over 41% of those two publications and then the first 200 words/over 50% respectively.

“The English definitions, instead of trying to be comprehensive, endeavor to express the most basic and obvious meaning of the characters used in our ministry and in the congregation activities. Definitions for single characters concentrate on the meaning of them as they are, not the meanings they may have in different combinations. The verb definitions are placed in the front and the “to” preposition is used to indicate them clearly. When applicable, the other word group definitions follow. MW = measure word. NW = usually unique to the [NWT].

“This list is prepared as three versions, the first by the numbers and then two others by the alphabets, one according to the pinyin and another by the English column. New improved versions can be published when the feedback points out any typos, mistakes or other suggestions.”

Downloading and Opening the Files

To download the files on a PC or a Mac:

The files are in Portable Document Format (PDF), and can be opened using the Adobe Reader program, version 7 or above, although I recommend that you use the latest version. This program is free to download, and it runs on a variety of platforms, including Macs. (Mac OS X’s Preview program may be used as well.) This button links to the download page for Adobe Reader:

Get Adobe Reader

To download the files on an iPad using GoodReader for iPad:

(See the 3-Line Material on the iPad page for more information.)

PDF Link Navigation and Annotation

The files are named with “LN-A” (“Link Navigation-Annotation”) to show that they have been enriched and fortified with PDF bookmarks, links, and annotation.

PDF bookmarks and links work like web hyperlinks, immediately taking you to the destination linked to when they are clicked or tapped on. This capability makes the files much easier to navigate around in, especially on mobile devices such as the iPhone, the iPod touch, and the iPad. (See the PDF Link Navigation page for more information, including a video screen recording of the PDF bookmarks and links in action.)

PDF annotation is the ability to add notes or comments to PDFs, analogous to margin notes, etc. on paper printouts. (See the PDF Annotation (Commenting) page for more information.)
