It contains counsel on what really does and doesn\u2019t matter in life, an extensive description and definition of the most important kind of love, and a sublime discussion about the need to become complete, mature, as a person. When these morphemes are put together in <span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>\u201cgu\u012bju<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n\t\t\t(gu\u012b\u00b7ju\n\t\t\t<span class=\"lit\">[([is] following)] {compasses; dividers \u2192 [rules; regulations]} \u00b7 {carpenter\u2019s squares \u2192 [rules; regulations]} \u2192<\/span> <span class=\"mt\">[[[is] following] rules; customs; established practices\/standards | [[is] following] social etiquette; manners | [is] well-behaved; well-disciplined]<\/span>\n\t\t\t\u89c4\u77e9\n\t\t\t<span class=\"trad\">\u898f\u77e9<\/span>)<\/span><i>\u201d,<\/i> the resulting expression effectively means \u201c[[is] following] rules; customs; established practices\/standards | [[is] following] social etiquette; manners | [is] well-behaved; well-disciplined\u201d, corresponding, in the usage of 1 Corinthians 13:5 in the current English and Mandarin versions of the <i>New World Translation<\/i> Bible, with the English expression \u201cdecent\u201d.<\/p>\n<h4>Decent According to Whom?<\/h4>\n<p>Especially since we are considering this expression as it\u2019s used in God\u2019s Word the Bible as part of direction from God that he inspired the apostle Paul to write down, we must understand that what is meant here by \u201cdecent\u201d is determined from <em>God\u2019s<\/em> point of view, not necessarily with regard to <em>human<\/em> traditions or conventions.<\/p>\n<p>As followers of Christ, we should keep in mind that Jesus himself said and did some things that did not conform with the traditions and conventions of his time. For example, rather than just going along with the draconian<sup id=\"2025-02-02c1\"><a href=\"#2025-02-02n1\" title=\"Footnote\">*<\/a><\/sup> human traditions of the time regarding the Sabbath, Jesus, knowing <a href=\"https:\/\/wol.jw.org\/en\/wol\/d\/r1\/lp-e\/1102002038#h=16:0-16:613\" title=\"Jesus \u201cEstablishes Justice in the Earth\u201d \u2014 Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY\">the real purpose<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/wol.jw.org\/en\/wol\/d\/r1\/lp-e\/1102014634#h=8:118-11:342\" title=\"Plucking Grain on the Sabbath \u2014 Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY\">of the Sabbath<\/a>, did God\u2019s work on the Sabbath, including healing people. If you had been present, how would you have felt about what Jesus did? Would you have been glad that Jesus had accomplished such good things?
