The English Was Life Created?<\/i> brochure just says that some scientists in the late 1930\u2019s were enthusiastic about the new idea that they had, that human-guided mutations could efficiently produce new species of plants. Interestingly, the Mandarin translation of this sentence is, shall we say, a little less neutral, coming right out and saying that this idea was one-sided wishful thinking, with no connection to the truth.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne\u201d\u2014Multiple Pronunciations and Hyphenations<\/h4>\n

The first morpheme<\/a> in \u201cy\u00ec\u2010xi\u0101ng\u2010q\u00edngyu\u00e0n<\/i><\/span>\n((y\u00ec\none<\/span>\n\u4e00)\u2010(xi\u0101ng\nside\u2019s<\/span>\n\u53a2\n\u5ec2<\/span>)\u2010(q\u00edng\u00b7yu\u00e0n\nfeelings\u2019; sentiments\u2019; emotions\u2019; sensibilities\u2019 \u00b7 {being willing\/ready; wanting \u2192 [hope; wish; desire]}<\/span>\n\u60c5\u613f\n\u60c5\u9858<\/span>)\n\u2192<\/span> [one-sided wish; one\u2019s own wishful thinking]<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d<\/i> is good old \u201cy\u00ec<\/i><\/span>\n(one<\/span>\n\u4e00)<\/span>\u201d<\/i> (\u201cone\u201d), which is one of the first Mandarin words that any student of Mandarin learns. Here, it\u2019s written with the tone mark for fourth tone, which is how \u201cy\u012b<\/i><\/span>\n(one<\/span>\n\u4e00)<\/span>\u201d<\/i> is usually pronounced when it occurs right before a syllable that does not<\/em> have a fourth tone. This is an example of tone sandhi<\/a>, and as the MEotW post<\/a> on \u201cdi\u01cenli\u00e0ng<\/i><\/span>\n(di\u01cen\u00b7li\u00e0ng\n{dot \u2192 [light (v<\/i>); ignite]} \u00b7 {to be bright} [\u2192 [illuminate; shine light on]]<\/span>\n\u70b9\u4eae\n\u9ede\u4eae<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d<\/i> said:<\/p>\n

In the end, what matters most re how anything is written is not just what is officially recommended or what happens to be popular among changing, imperfect humans. Rather, what matters most is what really works best to accomplish the goal of writing: To communicate to readers. This is especially true when God-honouring and life-saving Bible truths need to be communicated. This reminds us that like English, Mandarin has a long enough history that some of its words don\u2019t mean the same as they used to, and sometimes, we need to dig a bit into the past to understand how an expression\u2019s meanings came to \u201cwork\u201d together.<\/p>\n

Who Are Actually the Ones Believing in Fairy Tales?<\/h4>\n

Those who support evolution sometimes like to portray supporters of creation as na\u00efve believers in unscientific fairy tales. However, because of their personal desires to not be beholden to a Creator, some supporters of evolution may be the ones who tend to just believe what they want to believe in spite of actual scientific evidence to the contrary.
