\u201cGu\u0101nx\u012bn<\/i><\/span>\n(Gu\u0101n\u00b7x\u012bn\n{close \u2192 [concern]} \u00b7 heart [(with)] \u2192<\/span> [care [about\/for]]<\/span>\n\u5173\u5fc3\n\u95dc\u5fc3<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d literally means \u201cto close heart\u201d, which may seem odd for an expression that effectively means \u201cto care (about\/for)\u201d. However, whereas in English a closed heart means one that is closed off<\/em> from others, Mandarin seems to use \u201cgu\u0101n<\/i><\/span>\n(shut; {close [up]} [\u2192 [{lock up}; confine | concern; involve; implicate | connection | crux; {critical juncture}; {turning\/key point} | {mountain pass}]]<\/span>\n\u5173\n\u95dc\/\u95a2<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d in this and related expressions to refer to closing with<\/em> or approaching someone or something, or perhaps to refer to en<\/em>closing or embracing someone or something\u2014apparently it\u2019s all in the (implied) prepositions.<\/p>\n
