Expressions (RTE)<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wol.jw.org\/cmn-Hans\/wol\/d\/r23\/lp-chs-rb\/1001070202\" title=\"A2 \u4fee\u8ba2\u7248\u7684\u7279\u8272 \u2014 \u5b88\u671b\u53f0\u7ebf\u4e0a\u4e66\u5e93\">Appendix A2<\/a> of the current <em>Mandarin<\/em> version of the <i>New World Translation<\/i> Bible (nwtsty) correspondingly discusses words that have been translated differently in the current revision of the Mandarin <i>NWT<\/i> Bible, compared to how they had been translated before.<\/p>\n<p>Since we base what we say in Jehovah\u2019s service on his Word the Bible, the vocabulary used in it\u2014and the way those vocabulary words are translated\u2014should be reflected in how we speak in our ministry, at our meetings, etc. So, it is beneficial for us Mandarin field language learners to be familiar with the latest thinking from the organization on how Bible terms should be translated into Mandarin.<\/p>\n<h4>The Land of\u2026<\/h4>\n<p>Past versions of the Mandarin <i>NWT<\/i> Bible added \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>D\u00ec<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(<span class=\"mt\">Land (of)<\/span>\n\u5730)<\/span>\u201d after the names of lands, as in \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>\u0100ij\u00ed<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(<span class=\"mt\">Egypt<\/span>\n\u57c3\u53ca)<\/span>\n\n<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>D\u00ec<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(<span class=\"mt\">Land (of)<\/span>\n\u5730)<\/span>\u201d (\u201cthe Land of Egypt\u201d). However, that isn\u2019t the usual way to render the names of lands in Mandarin Chinese, resulting in readers finding such renderings unnatural.<\/p>\n<p>So, the current Mandarin version of the <i>NWT<\/i> Bible (nwtsty) now renders the names of lands differently. For example, \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>\u0100ij\u00ed<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(<span class=\"mt\">Egypt<\/span>\n\u57c3\u53ca)<\/span>\n\n<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>D\u00ec<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(<span class=\"mt\">Land (of)<\/span>\n\u5730)<\/span>\u201d is now rendered as \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>\u0100ij\u00ed<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(<span class=\"mt\">Egypt<\/span>\n\u57c3\u53ca)<\/span>\n\n<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>D\u00ecq\u016b<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(D\u00ec\u00b7q\u016b\n<span class=\"mt\">Land \u00b7 Region (of)<\/span>\n\u5730\u533a\n<span class=\"trad\">\u5730\u5340<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d, as can be seen at <a href=\"https:\/\/wol.jw.org\/cmn-Hans\/wol\/b\/r23\/lp-chs-rb\/nwtsty\/1\/13#s=10&amp;study=parallel&amp;v=1:13:10\" title=\"\u521b\u4e16\u8bb0 13 \u2014 \u5b88\u671b\u53f0\u7ebf\u4e0a\u4e66\u5e93\">Genesis 13:10<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/troubadourworks.com\/tiandi\/meotw\/img\/Ge_13-10_Parallel_Transl-WOL-O-1200-70.jpg\" alt=\"Genesis 13:10 (WOL CHS+Pinyin Parallel Translations)\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<h4>The Territory of\u2026<\/h4>\n<p>Incidentally, \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>d\u00ecq\u016b<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(d\u00ec\u00b7q\u016b\n<span class=\"mt\">land \u00b7 area; district; region [\u2192 [territory]]<\/span>\n\u5730\u533a\n<span class=\"trad\">\u5730\u5340<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d has also long been the expression used in Mandarin groups and congregations to refer to the \u201cterritory\u201d that a group or congregation carries out the preaching work in.
