Interestingly, in Cantonese, but apparently not in Mandarin, \u201czh\u00ed<\/i><\/span>\n(catch; capture [\u2192 [hold [in the hand]; grasp]] [\u2192 [persist in; stick to | carry out; implement; execute; observe | direct; manage; take charge of]]<\/span>\n\u6267\n\u57f7<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d also has a meaning of \u201cpick up\u201d. For example, those with Cantonese-speaking parents may have gotten used to being told to \u201cj\u0101p s\u00e1u m\u00e9ih<\/i> (\u6267\u624b\u5c3e\/\u57f7\u624b\u5c3e)\u201d, that is, to pick up after themselves or tidy up.<\/p>\n
