Appearing in the title of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jw.org\/cmn-hans\/\u8036\u548c\u534e\u89c1\u8bc1\u4eba\/\u8036\u7a23\u727a\u7272\u7eaa\u5ff5\u805a\u4f1a\/\" title=\"\u8036\u548c\u534e\u89c1\u8bc1\u4eba\uff1a\u8036\u7a23\u727a\u7272\u7eaa\u5ff5\u805a\u4f1a\uff0c2022\u5e744\u670815\u65e5\u661f\u671f\u4e94\">Mandarin<\/a> version of that page is this week\u2019s MEotW, \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>x\u012bsh\u0113ng<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(x\u012b\u00b7sh\u0113ng\n<span class=\"lit\">{sacrifice (<i>n<\/i> or <i>v<\/i>) | sacrificial} \u00b7 {[(as with a)] domestic animal} \u2192<\/span> <span class=\"mt\">[sacrifice]<\/span>\n\u727a\u7272\n<span class=\"trad\">\u72a7\u7272<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d, which effectively means \u201csacrifice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Note that while the \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>sh\u0113ng<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(<span class=\"mt\">{domestic animal}; {sacrificial animal}; livestock<\/span>\n\u7272)<\/span>\u201d part of \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>x\u012bsh\u0113ng<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(x\u012b\u00b7sh\u0113ng\n<span class=\"lit\">{sacrifice (<i>n<\/i> or <i>v<\/i>) | sacrificial} \u00b7 {[(as with a)] domestic animal} \u2192<\/span> <span class=\"mt\">[sacrifice]<\/span>\n\u727a\u7272\n<span class=\"trad\">\u72a7\u7272<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d sounds like the word for \u201clife\u201d, and while Jesus did indeed give his life for us, in this case the \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>sh\u0113ng<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo a\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(<span class=\"mt\">{domestic animal}; {sacrificial animal}; livestock<\/span>\n\u7272)<\/span>\u201d used literally means \u201cdomestic animal\u201d. When applied to Jesus\u2019 sacrifice, we can take the \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>sh\u0113ng<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(<span class=\"mt\">{domestic animal}; {sacrificial animal}; livestock<\/span>\n\u7272)<\/span>\u201d part of \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>x\u012bsh\u0113ng<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(x\u012b\u00b7sh\u0113ng\n<span class=\"lit\">{sacrifice (<i>n<\/i> or <i>v<\/i>) | sacrificial} \u00b7 {[(as with a)] domestic animal} \u2192<\/span> <span class=\"mt\">[sacrifice]<\/span>\n\u727a\u7272\n<span class=\"trad\">\u72a7\u7272<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d to effectively mean \u201c(as with a) domestic animal\u201d. It\u2019s understandable that this particular <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Morpheme\" title=\"Morpheme - Wikipedia\">morpheme<\/a> is used in \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>x\u012bsh\u0113ng<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(x\u012b\u00b7sh\u0113ng\n<span class=\"lit\">{sacrifice (<i>n<\/i> or <i>v<\/i>) | sacrificial} \u00b7 {[(as with a)] domestic animal} \u2192<\/span> <span class=\"mt\">[sacrifice]<\/span>\n\u727a\u7272\n<span class=\"trad\">\u72a7\u7272<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d, since domestic animals were commonly used in sacrifices in ancient China, as they were in ancient Israel.<\/p>\n<p>(It\u2019s interesting to note, though, that an Internet search for \u201cancient China sacrifices\u201d will turn up many references to <em>human<\/em> sacrifices in ancient China, as there were in ancient Canaan\u2014let us be careful not to think more highly of worldly Chinese history and culture than they actually deserve!)<\/p>\n<h4>Referring to the Memorial in Mandarin<\/h4>\n<p>By comparing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jw.org\/en\/jehovahs-witnesses\/memorial\/\" title=\"Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses: Memorial of Jesus\u2019 Death, Friday, April&nbsp;15, 2022\">English<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jw.org\/cmn-hans\/\u8036\u548c\u534e\u89c1\u8bc1\u4eba\/\u8036\u7a23\u727a\u7272\u7eaa\u5ff5\u805a\u4f1a\/\" title=\"\u8036\u548c\u534e\u89c1\u8bc1\u4eba\uff1a\u8036\u7a23\u727a\u7272\u7eaa\u5ff5\u805a\u4f1a\uff0c2022\u5e744\u670815\u65e5\u661f\u671f\u4e94\">Mandarin<\/a> versions of the page on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jw.org\" title=\"Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses\u2014Official Website: jw.org\">jw.org<\/a> as of this writing inviting people to the Memorial, we can see that the organization is now translating \u201cMemorial of Jesus\u2019 Death\u201d into Mandarin as \u201c<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>Y\u0113s\u016b<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(<span class=\"mt\">Jesus\u2019<\/span>\n\u8036\u7a23\n<span class=\"trad\">\u8036\u7a4c<\/span>)<\/span>\n\n<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>X\u012bsh\u0113ng<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n(X\u012b\u00b7sh\u0113ng\n<span class=\"lit\">{Sacrifice (<i>n<\/i>)} \u00b7 {(as with a) Domestic Animal} \u2192<\/span> <span class=\"mt\">[Sacrifice]<\/span>\n\u727a\u7272\n<span class=\"trad\">\u72a7\u7272<\/span>)<\/span>\n\n<span onclick=\"plus(this)\"><i>J\u00ecni\u00e0n J\u00f9hu\u00ec<\/i><\/span><span class=\"plusinfo\" onclick=\"minus(this)\">\n((J\u00ec\u00b7ni\u00e0n\n<span class=\"lit\">Remembering \u00b7 {Thinking Of} \u2192 [Commemorating]<\/span>\n\u8bb0\/\u7eaa\u5ff5\n<span class=\"trad\">\u8a18\/\u7d00\u5ff5<\/span>)\n(J\u00f9hu\u00ec\n<span class=\"lit\">Meeting<\/span>\n\u805a\u4f1a\n<span class=\"trad\">\u805a\u6703<\/span>)\n<span class=\"lit\">\u2192<\/span> <span class=\"mt\">[Memorial]<\/span>)<\/span>\u201d.
