The iPad-Letter-A4 size material posted below complements the Chinese Lasting Peace brochure by adding Pinyin and English, and is available in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese. When zoomed so that one page fills the entire screen, the material in these files renders at a good, usable size on the iPad and other devices with similarly sized screens. (Corresponding XLP-iPhone-A5 size material that is more suitable for use on smaller mobile devices such as the iPhone, the iPod touch, Android phones, Kindles, etc. is available on the Lasting Peace Brochure (Chinese-Pinyin-English, XLP-iPhone-A5, LN-A) page.)
Files for the 3-line material completed so far for the 2009 edition are now available. Still available are the original files and the files integrating the questions from the Nov. 2005 km and other changes. Also available are files containing an English translation of the article in the Nov. 2005 Hong Kong km about the Lasting Peace brochure, which article contained revised instructions and study questions. These latter files also include all the revised study questions in either Simplified or Traditional Chinese, with added Pinyin and English. (Thanks to Kenny Wang for the file on which the 2005-11 km article files are based.)
Remember that the material complements the Lasting Peace brochure—it does not replace it. If a Lasting Peace brochure is available, this material should be used along with it, not instead of it. This material is only meant to help those who are learning Chinese to more quickly become more effective in the Chinese field.
While some other recent 3-line material has been released by others without being proofread (which does have the benefit of allowing the material to be released more quickly), this Lasting Peace brochure material has been carefully translated and proofread. Thus, those who are learning Chinese can reliably use it to help increase their insight into the meanings of the Chinese characters and how they are used in various contexts. Of course, the material may still contain errors. If you find any, please email me to let me know.
The PDF files with “LN-A” (“Link Navigation-Annotation”) in their names have been enriched and fortified with bookmarks, links, and annotation support.
PDF bookmarks and links work like web hyperlinks, immediately taking you to the destination linked to when they are clicked or tapped on. This capability makes the files much easier to navigate around in, especially on mobile devices such as the iPhone, the iPod touch, and the iPad. (See the PDF Link Navigation page for more information, including a video screen recording of the PDF bookmarks and links in action.)
PDF annotation is the ability to add notes or highlighting to PDFs, analogous to how margin notes, underlining, etc. can be added to paper printouts. (See the PDF Annotation (Notes & Highlighting) page for more information.)
To download the files on a PC or a Mac:
The files are in Portable Document Format (PDF), and can be opened using the Adobe Reader program, version 7 or above, although I recommend that you use the latest version. This program is free to download, and it runs on a variety of platforms, including Macs. (Mac OS X’s Preview program may be used as well.) This button links to the download page for Adobe Reader:
To download the files on an iPad using GoodReader for iPad:
For corresponding files that are more suitable for use on smaller mobile devices such as the iPhone, the iPod touch, Android phones, Kindles, etc., go to the Lasting Peace Brochure (Chinese-Pinyin-English, XLP-iPhone-A5, LN-A) page.
